A little more
I'm Ant Steep — a composer and sound designer based in Los Angeles, by way of Australia.
I write music for picture: scores that are atmospheric, electronic-rooted, and built from sounds I design myself. I've spent over twenty years in music — releasing records, touring, and DJing across the Australian electronic scene and beyond — and since 2017 I've turned that ear toward the screen.
My work has lived in a lot of places: the VR feature The Dream Channel, whose score was previewed at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019; broadcast and brand work for the Australian Open, Motorola, and SBS Television; a score for Chunky Move dance company; the TV film Chet Bond: License to Chill; and feature and short films including Call Me Crazy, Dog Bowl, and Just A Thought — plus music for the short film Belly, premiering at the Sydney Film Festival in 2026. Along the way I've helped design software instruments with Spitfire Audio, LABS, and The Crow Hill Company.
Before LA, I released internationally on labels including Future Classic, Music For Freaks, and Universal, and toured with projects like Little Beasties, Indigo Children, Fang Junior, and Dimensioneers. I hold a Master of Music from the Australian Institute of Music and once taught film sound at the Australian College of the Arts.
What ties it together is a belief that the best scores aren't laid on top of a film — they grow from inside it. I'm happiest on projects that want something made for them alone.
