Over the past decade of composing for film, VR, and new media, one recurring theme has shaped my work: the importance of understanding sound from the inside out. Not just using presets or reacting to happy accidents — but building sound intentionally, architecturally, and expressively.
After teaching film sound, creating custom sample instruments, and helping other composers shape their sonic identity, I felt compelled to develop something more structured. Something that would empower creators to truly understand how sound works at its core.
Today, I’m excited to share the launch of Your Sound Designed — an educational platform I’ve built to teach the fundamentals of synthesis and sound design through a clear, modular, “from-first-principles” lens.
Why I Built It
Throughout my career, from electronic music production to VR scoring, I’ve relied on a systems-based understanding of sound. Modular synthesis, signal flow, and design thinking have all played a huge role in how I approach composition and sound design — and I’ve seen firsthand how unlocking these concepts can transform a creator’s workflow.
Your Sound Designed was born from:
- my love of synthesis

- my desire to help composers stop scrolling for presets and my passion for giving others the tools to design their own signature sound worlds
What the Course Covers
The first wave of modules focuses on building a deep understanding of synth architecture:

- Pads, leads, bass design
- Modular vs fixed architecture
- Creative sound design strategies
- Patch deconstruction
Everything is demonstrated in real time using software modular (VCV Rack), then applied to modern soft synths (Vital) so students can immediately take the concepts into their own workflow.
Later modules dive into:
- DAW-based sound design
- cinematic sound-palette building
- analysis and recreation of iconic synth sounds
- external FX processing
- advanced modulation systems
- spatial textures and atmospheres
